It’s hard to believe, but it’s true!
While everything around us seems to be grinding to a standstill in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the work on our property is getting back in gear. The photo above was taken on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 – five days after the President declared a national state of emergency, and just two days after he released “The President’s Coronavirus Guidelines for America.”
This all strikes me as one of those wonderful ironies of Providence. To be sure, virtually all reputable public and private health professionals are strongly encouraging aggressive precautionary measures to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus. These measures have significantly diminished, or in some way, altered most normal, day-to-day activities pertaining to leisure, education and work.
However, none of the health advisements prevent, or even caution against one person climbing into the cab of some type of earth-moving machine and getting to work. In fact, that solitary operator in that enclosed cab working outdoors with more than enough “social distance” between him and the next person is working in full compliance with the current health recommendations.
So, on one hand, we see the Lord providentially using something so small that you can’t even see its details under a microscope to dramatically slow down and even halt most venues of work and consumer activity around the country and all over the world. On the other hand, it is in these very same providential circumstances that the Lord is allowing the work on our property to resume. Without reading too much into all of this, I simply yield to God’s word given to us through the pen of James:
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that (James 4:13-15).”
The work on the property has begun, and the work will continue…. if the Lord wills.
